Many of us stop going on holiday with our parents soon after we leave home – it is a rite of passage to go on our first holiday with our friends, and the majority of us do not look back.

But there is no reason why you can’t have a perfectly luxurious, delightful holiday with your parents. Our Travel Managers show you how.

    1. Choosing a Country

Location is the make or break factor for an enjoyable, hassle-free time with your parents. There are a number of factors to consider:

    • Distance: If your parents are young and sprightly, they might not be bothered by a 10 hour plane journey, but if they’re not as well as they once were, we would recommend keeping the flight times under four hours.

    • Style: While your parents might like to enjoy themselves, it is likely that you will need to find the common ground between the adventure activities and late bars that you would like to frequent, and the relaxing experiences they may want to have. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun – we can help you charter a beautiful yacht fit for your whole family, and plan the private beach barbeque you’ve always dreamed of.

    • Temperature: People’s attitudes and tolerances towards weather change as they grow older. Some older people revel in tropical or Mediterranean climates, whereas others less so. Choose a country to visit that will be manageable for the person with the lowest tolerance, you will want your family holiday to build on your relationship, not cause tension!

    1. Group effort

Both you and your parents will have plenty of experience in organising your own holidays. This might mean that amongst you, there are several parties who are usually dominant decision-makers.

To avoid confrontation, we recommend that once you have sorted out the basics, you create your own personal itineraries. Once you have done this, hand them over to our Travel Managers to work into a manageable package. This way, the minutiae of the holiday are down to a third party, avoiding any unnecessary stress, and ensuring everybody’s most important holiday elements are covered.

    1. Additional care

If your parents are older, they may need additional care and support, and this could influence the type of holiday you experience together. Adventures in far-off lands might not be sensible if the care available is not up to high standards, and you may wish to be close to home if anything should go wrong.

Our Travel Managers can help you to choose a holiday that is tailored to your family’s needs and ensure that your parents never feel anything less than comfortable and relaxed.
