While some of us are mourning the sun, at Simplexity, we think that the change in season is cause for celebration. So while some of us are just coming back from our summer holidays and looking longingly through our Instagram photos, now is the perfect time to book a cosy, luxurious stay at one of the UK’s best hotels – perfect for a chilly Autumn evening. Here are some of our choices for the perfect Autumnal short-stay.
Gilpin Hotel, Windermere, Cumbria
The whole point of a short weekend away is to luxuriate and do absolutely nothing. At Gilpin Hotel, you can do just that. From the moment you step inside this fabulous country house – originally built in 1901 – to the time you leave, you won’t have to lift a finger.
The bedrooms at Gilpin are built without compromise, but the stand out rooms we would recommend are the five luxurious detached lodges. Each cedar-clad comes with a breath-taking autumnal view, and with a private en-suite spa – including a treatment area, steam room, rain shower, free standing bath, sauna and hot tub, all surrounded by a walled garden. Constructed in February 2016, these rooms are brand new and absolutely worth your time.
Chewton Glen, New Milton, Hampshire
This is much more than a country manor. Right at the heart of the New Forest, this award-winning hotel is a prime spot for hiding from the elements and enjoying the company of your friends, family, or just some quality alone time.
Our advice would be to really push the boat out and stay in your very own private treehouse. These are literally suspended 35 feet above the forest ground and come equipped with every modern convenience and luxury you could require.
You also can’t visit Chewton Glen without dining there. From a dainty afternoon tea to an expertly crafted evening menu, food at Chewton Glen is delicious, sumptuous and nourishing. For the perfect evening in, we recommend ordering a room platter and spending the night by the log burning fire.
Hebridean Island Cruises
If autumn is all about taking in breath-taking views, sampling seasonal foods and enjoying a transforming climate, then what better way to do so than by the world’s smallest private cruise ship: The Hebridean Princess.
Guests commonly describe this ship as ‘like home but better’ and with a country estate aesthetic, but on water, this island hopping ship is bound to give you an outstanding autumnal UK holiday around the pristine Hebrides Islands.
With a specialist, dedicated and small crew, and never more than 50 guests on board, there’s something truly special about this cruise. If you do board the ship, you must participate in a Gala dinner, which are sparkling occasions. Diners are treated to a gourmet dinner and cocktail reception, and the evening is topped off with a traditional recital of Robert Burns’ Address to a Haggis.
