The United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union by 52% to 48%. Leave won the majority of votes in England and Wales.

The British stock market and the value of the British pound is expected to decrease drastically, following the UK’s momentous decision to end its 43-year old relationship with the EU.

British and European leaders must now begin a formal process to negotiate the terms of Britain’s future with the EU. And EU leaders will have to consider reforms to dissuade other EU members from following Britain’s lead.

A planned meeting of European leaders next week in Brussels will now become an emergency Brexit summit.
