Denmark’s capital city is lovely, lively Copenhagen, situated on the largest of the offshore islands. Here you can enjoy every cosmopolitan, urban pleasure, plus have a day out at Tivoli Gardens amusement park. If it’s the countryside you are seeking, you can cycle through beech woods exploring the sleepy medieval villages in their midst. Out on the ever-present water there are ferries to jump aboard to visit the islands and marvel at the awesome bridges, such as the 10-mile (16km) span that links Denmark to Sweden.
With such a vast coastline at your mercy, sampling some of the freshest fish in the country is an absolute must, while exploring the Vikings’ maritime history at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde helps to bring Denmark’s incredible history to life.
It all adds up to a very civilised, welcoming destination, with many attractions as sweet and tempting as the flaky pastries that we know as ‘Danish’.
Climate
Denmark has a relatively mild climate with no real extremes: in the light summer months of June to August the average daytime temperature is 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit), whilst at its coldest in February the average is just above freezing.
Language
Danish is the official language, but English is widely spoken.
Passport Visa
Denmark is a member of the European Union. You may need a Schengen visa (short stay visa) to stay in the country for more than 90 days. Please check rules around visa requirements before you travel, as they may change regularly.
Safety
