South Africa contains the world in one country, offering an adventurous global traveller an unforgettable array of sights and experiences. From the gold mines of Johannesburg and the sophistication of Cape Town, through expansive nature reserves, winelands and lofty mountains to the sunny, laid-back beaches of Durban, there is something here for everyone.
Leisure travellers most often head for the Atlantic west coast around Cape Town, while South African corporate travel is centred on its cities, , although the attractions of the interior and Indian Ocean coast are not to be missed.
Traditional tribal villages, culturally vibrant cities and reserves replete with all of Africa’s legendary big game combine with the pleasures of luxury hotels, sophisticated shopping and exciting theme parks.
Elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe and buffalo all roam free in the South African bushveld and savannah regions, while exotic birds fill the sky. Wherever your bespoke safari takes you – from the deserts, forests and mangrove swamps to the country’s pristine beaches and historic cities – South Africa is one of the few global destinations that can offer the complete holiday experience packed with such an array of world-class attractions.
South Africa is a huge country with diverse climatic regions. In general, however, the weather is sunny and hot in the summer months (December to April), and mild during winter (May to November). Winters are cold and wet, with snow falling on the mountain ranges.

South Africa has 11 official languages: these include Afrikaans, English, Xhosa, Zulu and Sotho.
All visitors to South Africa must hold an onward or return ticket, evidence of sufficient funds for their stay and a passport with at least six months’ validity. Most countries’ nationals do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days, though citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia are exceptions and do require a visa. Please check the rules around visa requirements before you travel, as they may change regularly.
Safety can be an issue and visitors to South Africa should be aware of the country's high incidence of crime. Berea and Hillbrow in Johannesburg are among the high-risk areas.
