Here at Simplexity Travel we are always on the lookout for different destinations to explore. Whilst California is a tried and tested choice for many, we thought we would share with you the charms of one of the state’s lesser known areas – Sonoma County.
Just 45 minutes north of San Francisco, Sonoma is home to more than 425 wineries ranging from rustic to regal – not to mention 17 distinct appellations. Napa may make the headlines but here in this gorgeously laid-back county you will find the roots of Californian wine.
This is a location that is also synonymous with health and wealth being, just what we all need at this time of year. Bathe in sunlight filtering through the canopy of thousand-year-old giant redwoods whether by hiking, biking or ziplining. From the mountain tops of Baldy Peak in Sugarloaf State Park to the coastal cliffs of Sonoma Coast State Park and the Kortum Trail, there are endless outdoor adventures to enjoy here.
Sonoma’s hotel scene is also booming. One of our favourites is Beltane Ranch; located in the heart of Sonoma Valley this family-owned, working ranch dates back to 1892. Stay in one of the five simple rooms in the main house or the adjacent cottage, watch the sun go down from the front porch or wander around the poppy-filled gardens and olive orchards. Pure bliss!
