Our Corporate Travel Managers know that business travel isn’t all closing deals, making big sales and going to the bar. When you retreat to back to your hotel room at the end of the day, you can feel like you’re missing a chance to explore a great new city.

Here, focusing on the world’s corporate hotspots, our Travel Managers give a great guide on how to get out and enjoy the city when you find yourself alone on business travel.

New York

If you’re in the Big Apple on big businesses, you are likely to have your evenings free. But because of the time difference, getting through the working day may feel like enough of an effort to bother exploring the city that never sleeps.

No matter how tired you are feeling, we highly recommend asking your Simplexity Travel Managers to find a ticket to a Broadway show. This is the best place in the world to see theatre and musical performance and these nights can be as energetic or laid back as you want them to be. Sit down, relax and prepare for two hours of magical entertainment in the heart of the city.

If you just want somewhere to unwind after a hard day, take a walk to Times Square to clear your head. The colours, the lights and a first-hand sense of the iconic importance of this most famous junction will be your reward for venturing here alone.

Dubai

Dubai is known for its luxury. It was home to the first 7 star hotel after all. Luckily, much of this luxury is well enjoyed alone. A great place to start is in one of the city’s many spas.

On the 18th floor of the Burj Al Arab’s elegant sail is the Assawan Spa. This luxury connoisseur spa is the perfect place to relax the body and mind. If on business alone, the warm, friendly staff and cutting edge treatments are wonderful company.

If you’d rather get amid the hustle and bustle of the city, Dubai has fantastic shopping. Head off to the Dubai Mall after fulfilling your work duties to enjoy shopping until 10pm every weekday. It is the biggest mall in the world, and virtually every major luxury brand has representation on its many air-conditioned avenues.

London

Open until 11pm, the National Theatre can be a stunning evening fixture to look forward to during your day of business travel in London. Although certainly touristy, the pod in the London Eye can be a splendid place to enjoy time alone after a busy day meeting and entertaining.

From the top, try and catch a glimpse of Cover Garden over the Strand. It could be your next destination. The vibrant street artists, stalls, bars and restaurants provide a terrific ambience for the solo corporate traveler.

Berlin

Berlin is renowned for its late night economy, but if you are after something a little more sophisticated than 24-hour night clubs, take a trip to the A-Trane Jazz Club. You can dine, relax and sip whisky in front of some of Europe’s most exciting jazz talent into the early hours.

To get a taste for Berlin’s cultural heritage, head to the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie for some Cold War hangovers. Alternatively, you may choose to pay your respects at the Holocaust Memorial, which has outdoor areas open at all times. And of course, the majesty of the Brandenburg Gate is always sure to impress.
