Fregate Island Private – Oetker Collection
From March 2018, British Airways are becoming the first UK carrier to offer direct flights to Mahé in the Seychelles. To mark this, we have chosen one of our favourites resorts – Fregate Island Private, just a short transfer from Mahé – to create the perfect island escape.
Fregate Island Private in the Seychelles is a true paradise, where luxury and conservation are in perfect harmony. Four degrees South of the Equator, it is a haven of outstanding natural beauty with a unique setting of verdant, tropical interiors and abundant nature fringed by dream beaches. Discover a refuge for tropical birds and nesting turtles; a myriad of marine life and seven pristine beaches, including one of the most beautiful in the world.
The seven dream beaches of Fregate Island Private are among the best in the world for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving and other water sports. Enjoy a trip with the dive master from the fully equipped PADI dive centre to search for whale sharks, giant manta rays and dolphins or take a deep-sea fishing excursion from the island’s yacht club to the nearby game bank. There are also 10 different nature walks to explore the island’s interior, where you will find the second largest population of free roaming Aldabra giant tortoises and more than one hundred bird species including the acrobatic Fregate Bird – which the island is named after. Fregate Island has also successfully re-introduced several endangered bird species including the magpie-robin and Seychelles blue pigeon through initiatives such as the eradication of pesticides – so make sure you pack your binoculars!
Staff members work to safeguard the nests for hundreds of endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles which nest even in daylight due to the private and safe beaches on Fregate Island.
Accommodation options include just 16 villas and one large residence, all naturally isolated from one another, merging into the lush green surroundings and offering the ultimate in comfort and privacy. All offer a hot tub and large infinity pool, butler service and personalised golf buggy. Also included are all meals, soft drinks, house wines and local beers and non-motorised water sports. Wake up and have your breakfast either in your residence or in one of the restaurants!
Simplexity Top Tip – Request one of the villas furthest away from the main buildings for the ultimate privacy or if you are travelling with children, villas one and two are the best option as they are in the gardens rather than on a clifftop.
Around 85% of the produce used on the island is home grown from the ingredients used in the spa to the water and food at the Plantation restaurant. The Rock Spa uses fruits and herbs from the island’s plantation to create infinitely personalized and energizing treatments. The hotel is well on its way for carbon neutrality which is a huge step forward for the Seychelles.
The special touches don’t just end in your villa, your butler can arrange a host of experiences including a speedboat or helicopter trip to a nearby island, high tea on the island’s highest point, or a head to toe chocolate massage at the spa… the possibilities are endless!
