Thailand has been a magnet for fun-loving travellers from around the world for many years, but it is increasingly offering luxury breaks for those who want to travel with their families rather than their backpacks.
Thailand’s tropical climate keeps things warm throughout the year, its cities offer cultural delights, its beaches beg you to indulge in watersports and relaxation in equal measures, and stunning mountains and forests offer accessible treks and views.
So what would a fun-filled family holiday in Thailand shape-up like? Our Travel Managers suggest something like this.
Bangkok with kids
From one of this exciting city’s many luxury hotels you can visit Wat Phra Kaew (the Temple of the Emerald Buddha), the stunning Grand Palace and take a special boat ride on the river to feed the huge fish that live here. Your children will love it. We can also arrange special canal tours through the exciting floating markets of the city.
Chiang Mai for families
Head north on an internal flight or on a sleeper train, to take a family cookery course where you will be guided around an authentic Thai market and organic farm, before preparing your meal from scratch. Next, sample the wares at the night market before you head into the jungle for a family hill tribe trek, a spot of bamboo-rafting or a trip to the Elephant Nature Park, a rescue centre where children can learn about these beautiful animals and help bathe them in the river. Unforgettable!
Thai islands for children
Having experienced some of the thrills and spills of Thai cities, it’s time to kick back on the beach. For this we recommend heading south.
The resorts that are on the northern Andaman coast offer some of the best options for those wishing to stay in supreme comfort with children.
On Phuket you can avoid the crowds and holiday in style if you base your family in one of the exclusive resorts of Surin and Ao Bang Thao. We are part of the Virtuoso network of exclusive hotels and can arrange one-off hotel experiences you’ll never forget. From here you will be able to enjoy perfect beaches or try out kayaking, rafting, snorkelling and tailored boat trips to the surrounding islands.
If you’re travelling with older children and teens, the Similan and Surin Islands, just north of Phuket, offer some of the world’s best scuba-diving, and the opportunity to spot the elusive whale shark. Try a luxury live-aboard cruise if you are looking to make the most of the underwater sights.
Krabi for teens
The area around Krabi in the south of Thailand also boasts national parks, abundant waterfalls, fantastic scuba diving, tons of islands to explore and some rather exclusive mainland beaches to escape to.
Railay Beach is a paradise for teens. Here they can hang out on the beaches or hang onto rocks as they test their mettle against the adventurous climbs on offer. One of the best activities we can help you arrange is cliff jumping, if you and your children are brave enough.
Thai travel in style
So there you have it!
One happy family, two weeks of stylish, fun travel and a holiday you’ll talk about for years.
Mai pen rai, as they say in Thailand, or ‘no worries’, as we put it.
