Ski trips are perfect family-friendly holidays. They are a time to give your children independence whilst teaching them a sport they will love for life. While the children are out having fun, you can master your own technique, explore the après ski and simply enjoy being abroad with your partner.
But the first step in all of this is getting your children comfortable on their skis. Here are the best nursery slopes and schools to get your kids competent, safely, happily and with bags of fun along the way!
École du Ski Français
The most important things for young children learning to ski is that they are safe and having fun. At ESF, you can be absolutely sure that this will be the case.
The school has bases in seven resorts including 3 valleys and Chamonix Pays Mont Blanc. It provides classes for ages upwards of three years old, meaning classes with ESF are perfect for your child’s very first trip up the mountain.
A progressive badge system will reward your children’s learning and ensure they are always in a class suited to their ability. They also teach snowboarding and Nordic skiing and provide adult and performance classes, meaning that no matter what your level, you can become a better skier!
Summit Ski & Snowboard School
Summit are a British ski school, so you will benefit from all of the instructors speaking perfect English and having British Association of Snowsports Instructors accreditation.
They do classes for younger children, but their ‘cool instructor’ brand image would be best suited to teenagers looking to progress. Their Slopestyle classes are for 13-16 year-olds, which focus on ‘blasting’ around the slopes and having a great time, with instructors advising and leading, rather than slowing down for boring lessons.
Summit works out of Zermatt on the Swiss-Italian Border. Their classes are no larger than six skiers meaning quality is assured. Plus they never cancel a class if there is at least one person booked, so you’ll always be sure your kids are having fun.
Warren Smith Ski Academy
Warren Smith would suit older teenagers looking to really kick on with the skiing technique on their family holiday. They offer five-day intensive academies designed to stretch skiers and develop them at super-fast speeds.
Courses are based in Verbiers, Switzerland. They incorporate some high tech ski-ology, including a biomechanical assessment of each skier. Private coaching is also an option, with ski fitness and ski technique classes differentiated so you and your children can really focus on what they want to achieve from the sessions.
The Warren Smith Ski Academy takes a progressive, high-tech approach to ski development, and if your child is serious about improving to the next level, these are the people to go and see.
