Good news for anyone who regularly travels to London for business with nearly 8,000 hotel rooms due to open across 65 new hotels next year.

Statistics from London and Partners, the Mayor of London’s promotional agency, reveal that hotel room openings have risen from 3,222 in 2010 to 7,995 planned for 2020, a record high for the UK capital. This is in addition to the 158,956 existing hotel rooms.

In 2019 and 2020 there are expected to be 14,840 new rooms across 121 hotels.
Of those, 10% are five-star properties, 31% are four-star and 26% are budget.

This unprecedented array of new hotels will provide meetings, events and incentive planners with further choice for accommodation and meetings venues. North American brands that have entered the market this year include the Standard and the Hard Rock Hotel. The W London Leicester Square, by Marriot, has also undergone a major refurbishment programme.
The fourth quarter of 2019 will welcome the opening of the Biltmore Mayfair under Hilton’s new luxury brand LXR Hotels & Resorts, and the Prince Akatoki, the first European opening by Japan’s Prince Hotels.

Looking ahead and 2020 will see Edwardian Hotels London open the much anticipated The Londoner, the world’s first super boutique hotel, in Leicester Square. Pan Pacific London is set to launch next year as well, featuring a 370-capacity ball room at One Bishopsgate Plaza. Rosewood will also debut a new luxury hotel on the site of the former US Embassy in Grosvenor Square by 2023.

London and Partners said that significant new global investment in hotels and venues had contributed to London topping CVENT’s European Meeting Destination rankings for the fifth year in a row.
