Searching for some inspiration for your next trip? Time Out’s recently published list of 51 Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World might be of some help.

For the fifth year running, the publication canvassed thousands of city dwellers and its global network of local editors and writers to come up with the best of the best.

In first place is Colonia Americana in Guadalajara, Mexico, which was praised for its “edgy blend of Art Deco and neoclassical mansions.” Cais do Sodre in Lisbon is runner up, described as a neighbourhood where the city’s “most promising young chefs are opening new restaurants; where small businesses are springing to life and where much-loved bars and nightclubs are finally rising from the ashes of the past few years.”

The highest UK entry, in at number eight, is Cliftonville in Margate – “buzzing with energy” – whilst rounding out the Top 10 are Wat Bo Village, Siem Reap, Cambodia; Ridgewood, NYC; Mile End Montreal; Barrio Logan, San Diego; Shimokitazawa, Tokyo; Barrio Yungay Santiago, Chile and Cours Julien, Marseille.
