Norwegian Set Record for Fastest Flight Between NY and Gatwick
Norwegian has claimed to have broken a record for the fastest subsonic commercial transatlantic fight.
The record-breaking flight lasted just five hours and 13 minutes and was operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner between New York and London’s Gatwick Airport on Monday 15th January 2018.
Flight DY7014 left New York JFK at 11.44am and arrived in London at 9.57pm, making it 53 minutes early. Tailwinds reaching up to 202 mph, allowed the Dreamliner to reach a top speed of 776 mph during the flight.
Norwegian captain Harold van Dam said: “The 787 Dreamliner is a pleasure to fly and it’s a great feeling to know that we have set a new record in this aircraft. We were actually in the air for just over five hours and if it had not been for forecasted turbulence at lower altitude, we could have flown even faster.”
